很多人認為，擁有財富與聲望之時，便是幸福到來之際。我得告訴你，事實並非如此。這個世界，富有卻痛苦得如同生活在地獄的人比比皆是。關於電影明星自殺或吸毒致死的報道，我們不是沒有見過。毫無疑問，金錢並非解決全部問題的唯一辦法。
不義之財無法帶來幸福。彩票中獎不能帶來幸福。賭博所得不可能帶來幸福。在我看來，幸福的秘訣在於工作卓有成就，在於對他人的幸福有所貢獻，在於誠實致富。憑運氣或靠欺騙得來的錢財是不義之財。利用他人或傷害他人得來的錢財，你不會樂於接受，你會覺得自己自私而卑鄙。
建立在誠實正直和卓有成效的工作、貢獻及自尊的基礎上的幸福才會長久。幸福不是終點，而是一個過程。這個過程需要連續不斷的誠實正直和卓有成效的工作。它讓你真正有益於他人，讓你意識到自身的價值。正如韋恩博士所說：“沒有通向幸福的路，幸福本身就是路。”“有朝一日，我實現了自己的目標，有車有房，擁有自己的事業，那麽我就會幸福。”——這種說法毫無意義。生活不會是這樣的。若是等到某些東西的出現，依賴外部環境的改變，你才感到幸福，那你永遠若有所失，總會錯過某些東西。
